Laser Surgery

The surgery is performed by an Excimer Laser, which uses a cool beam of light to remove minute amounts of corneal tissue, which will enable patients to see clearly without the need for glasses or contact lenses. The eye is anesthetized with a topical eye drop to prevent the patient from any discomfort during the surgical process. The surgical process is short in duration, generally taking only about fifteen minutes.

You are good candidate for refractive surgery if you meet the following guidelines:

  • You are over 18 years of age.
  • You are not pregnant or nursing.
  • Your eye prescription has been relatively stable for one year.
  • Your eyes have no other problems other than the need for glasses/contact lenses.
  • You have no history of auto-immune diseases (ie: lupus, rheumatoid arthritis).
  • Your eyes have a refractive error between +3.50 and -15.00 diopters.
  • You have realistic expectations and a good understanding of the procedure.

Previous history of eye surgery does not disqualify you as a candidate for surgery, but must be considered on an individual basis.
